how much would you pay for a bass

Hmm.. I would say with my current salary and if I could save up some money (having some financial problems, gotta solve them first), I would say $3000 max.

The most I have ever spent was $1,600.00 on my Classic Stingray because it was new. It was the first time I ever purchased a new bass. Anything above that for what I do would be overkill. That being said, it would be interesting to play some of these high basses just to check them out.

Always used: My most expensive until now was $ 6k. (Couldn't find anything better)
But if I come across a bass that's worth the money I would easily pay as much as somebody else would give for a car. (Just because I spend more time and are having much more fun playing bass than sitting in a car) Which would add up to 30 to 100 k I guess...
Which is also a normal price for good quality upright by the way.

About $1800 for a custom Fender clone once all the builders mistakes were fixed. Including hard shell case.

For the right Fodera, Carl Thompson or Ritter, I MIGHT go $5,000 but I am not sure I could pull the trigger.

My real magic # seems to be $2,000-2,300 as I have bought at least a dozen basses in this range.

pups, hardware and strings? $800 is my limit and to be honest
that is pushing it. I would rather buy cheap and mod and spend
more on an amp.

I'm in week 5 of a fretless Carvin build that was $1917 or so.

• Walnut 3 piece body, with a figured walnut top and maple laminate layer
  
• 5 piece walnut neck with 2 maple stripes
  
• Birdseye maple board with epoxy coating

Felt all-out compared to my solid black 2004 Carvin.

But it should be nice! Highest I could imagine would be 2500 or so.

I really have always preferred Fender basses. One time I spent a little over 3 grand on a Modulus 5 string from Mars Music (anyone remember those places). Sold it after a while and went back to 4 string Fender and MM basses.

in 30yrs, the most i'd spent was $1200. on a Steinberger in '89! it's still being gigged because of portability and durability. the Fender AV62RI jazz (my fav) was bought brand new @ $1099, but G.A.S. has me wanting to drop $2500+ on a CS 64Relic!

I'm married with children so salary minus expenses...the 'disposable' income on a bass, realistically, would be around $300. I'd like to get a Carvin SB4000 though.

I priced out a complete Warmoth build with the hardware I desire, the electronics I want, and I'll finish it myself. It priced out about 1150. That's about how much I'd pay max.

Then about 100 bucks to have a tech buddy of mine to dial it in.
