I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I want to put an octave pedal on my board. But shelling out 50-60$ (that's a healthy amout of $$$ after currency exchange) for an OC-2 seems a little unjustified for an effect I will be using rarely. A 25$ Danelectro Chili Dog, which I've read is pretty much an OC-2 clone, seems like a wiser choice. What's your opinion?

How much wouldyou pay for a pedal?

Some people have spent and are willing to spend up to $500 for a bass whammy and $800 for an Akai Deep Impact. While I'd never spend that much, I have no issue spending over $200 on a pedal if it does what I want it to do.
Where are you located that you're getting hosed on the currency conversion? I have no experience with Dano pedal but it is plastic(which is fine most of the time, deal breaker for some) and if the bypass is anything like the Fab flanger I had then it almost isn't a bypass.(I could always hear swirly flange sounds with the pedal bypassed-even worse if I had some dirt going). You would probably enjoy the OC-2 more and for a longer time.
I have played neither (I own an MXR 288 Bass Octave Deluxe). With that being said, in my opinion $50-60 for the OC-2 isn't bad at all, I have heard awesome clips of it.
50-60$ to me doesn't seem like much. I usually spend about 100-120 on pedals (I don't buy that many) because I don't like Boss, Digitech type of stuff. I've a habit of breaking cheaper pedals, I'm not sure why.
My personal limit is $150. After that I can't justify it when I could be getting a bass for the same money.

I've spent 400 on a Meatball clone (Barge Concepts Grinder).

My personal rule is if it is under $100 I am willing to buy it to try it. Anything over I play wait and see. $65 for a OC-2 seems fair enough. I paid $275 for a EHX BMS (After trying it) because I wanted it, not because I needed it, but that's just me .... a fool and his money are soon parted

I would say that up $100.00 would be my limit.
I purchased a Bass Podxt for 75.00 and the MVB MKII shortboard for 145.00. I figured it will give me any effect that I will ever need and then some.
Even if some of those effects are not as nice as what a pedal alone would do, I will get by with what the Pod produces.
Plus it reduces the clutter at my feet.

can you try a chili dog somewhere? The used market is a wonderful thing for pedals . . .

I think that's the only way you get your money's worth when it comes to gear (especially effects). But unfortunately stompboxes are not popular here in India(multi-fx craze here) so stores keep a very limited stock (BOSS, Digitechs Vox wahs and Crybabys mostly). Not even EHX which I feel are much better priced than BOSS. So I can't try it out.

Well, I see your point. I wouldn't pay $150 for a OC-2. Try the chili dog ... for $25 I say hit it and flip it if it doesn't work for you.
Depends on the pedal and my financial situation at the time.
At the moment I am looking into distortion boxes...
Last I checked AmEx kind of murders you if you don't pay your balance in full every month so I'll be careful

You get what you pay for. IMO the Dan-O pedals are good for bedroom playing but not very useful in a mix. Plus I don't know how much I'd trust all that plastic. Now, Digitech Hardwire pedals are the bomb diggity and if you have them, definitely check out MXR. But if you can find a used OC-2 you should definitely jump on it.
Boss OC-2 - virtually indestructible (it's a Boss) and if you buy one off eBay and don't get gouged on the price you'll ALWAYS be able to get back what you paid for it.

I've spent $350 on a used Moog Bass MuRF, and am probably going to wind up spending $560 or so on their Cluster Flux at some point. I've spent $220 on 3 different pedals, everything else was around $150 or less. I'm hesitant on shelling out the $325 for the POG2, and have been looking every now and again for a used one, mainly because I simply want it to run a second channel of just organ, but if I think I'll be using a pedal a lot and it's quality build and quality sound, I'll buy it for a reasonable price, and to me all I've bought have been reasonably priced for what they do and how often I use them. The best deals to me have been the Source Audio pedals at $219 each, because they have soooooo many sound possibilities. The MuRF has a ton of possibilities within as well (many I've yet to actually find and utilize), and it was worth it for $350. Would it have been worth $460? I'm not sure...
