How sacrilege is it?

Paint it black?

There is no sacrilege in anything you do to a Sqeuirie.

De-painting and re-painting is a ton of work compared to eBaying and boxing.

If you don’t suck at painting, have a place to safely de-paint and re-paint, and enjoy de-painting and re-painting, go for it.

It seems to me to be about as rewarding an adventure as committing simultaneously to a vow of silence and walking backwards exclusively for a week straight.

I really love the idea of depainting and repainting, though I have no place I could leave it where my still dripping guitar wouldn't be found on the wall of a pawn shop by the end of the day..

If your bass was one of the very first Fenders, I'd say it's not wise. But it isn't. It isn't ever close - it's a mass produced bass of a design that's been around for millions of units. Experimentation is where new ideas come from. Go for it.

Should I strip down my 2010 Squier CV-P in sonic blue and paint it black?

For what it’s worth (and the current market value for my thoughts on any matter is less than zero), it’s your bass to do what you wish. Best wishes on your project.

BTW, I always though the only thing sacrilegious concerning a PB is installing round wound strings on them, and liking it.

PS: Conventional wisdom. Once your bass becomes black, rules are you have 30 days to install a tort pickguard, or else….
