How Short Is It?

I once had an SG copy bass made by Amena. It was the same size as an SG 6-string guitar, so it was shorter than a short scale bass. The dimensions are the same as the 6-stringer. What is the name for a bass of this size?

Alex?

Truly, without knowing the scale length (distance from nut to bridge), there's no way to know. Since 30" can fit in the silhouette of a geetar, it can just be lumped in as a short scale.

There is a "sub short scale" thread, maybe that would have some info.

The Ibanez Mikro is 28.5" and fits in a Stratocaster gig bag, but I still consider it short scale (not saying it is, just that I consider it to be).

The standard scale length of a Gibson SG guitar is 24-3/4" if that helps. Of course, it depends on the location of the bridge. If the bridge is close to the end of the body, it's a longer short scale, possibly 30".

I no longer have the guitar, but it fit in my hardshell SG guitar case. When I lined up the two instruments beside each other their necks were the same size.

When you compared the bass to the guitar were the frets spaced the same distance apart on both necks or were the frets spaced farther apart on the bass?
To the best of my memory they were spaced the same. It seems like somebody took a regular guitar and made a bass out of it. It looked too good for a diy job.

In that case the scale length would be 24-3/4"

Some companies did that. I remember seeing a Kay and a National Airline Pocket Bass that were essentially converted guitars.

I've converted a few guitars to basses myself.
