Stable... in that I haven't sold a bass since 2011. Unstable... in that the collection keeps growing, like a super-massive black hole in the center of a galaxy.
I was going to type almost exactly the same thing, except I traded a bass back in 16 or so, but otherwise it's only been incoming, even though I'd like to get rid of several. The market is really soft and not usually worth the bother of selling and shipping living in the sticks. I have a buyer for one though, am putting an offer on one in the next few days and have spoken to a dealer about sourcing an unusual model. That should do me beyond a couple of mods, some repairs and restorations, but in reality, 20+ basses and guitars could go.

My #1 basses are a Mike Lull (14years) and a Sadowsky (9 years). They replaced a Lakland 55-94 (14 years) and a Wal (8 years). After a few false starts they replaced a Fender Precision (26 years). I only upgrade, never buy on a whim. Right now I think I may have reached peak bass.

yeah, it changes a lot. maybe, because it's not really a collection, but the basses I need and don't really have the resources to collect extra.

currently that's three basses and the oldest one is like five years. I don't even have the bass on my avatar anymore.

I'd only be interested in a bass if it had a very good chance of getting into my gigging rosta. I rotate around 3... so for the rest I'm getting my thoughts around selling them.
I've got one up for sale but not a lot of interest.
I will probably list another one soon.
