Ooh, it looks like Nash make these and with a rosewood fretboard to boot (I'm not a maple fretboard fan).

Psshh...how about a single coil 50's P in the neck, and a split coil P in the bridge position?
NOW we're gettin' screwy![]()

If the two single coils were not opposite wound from each other, the result would be the equivalent of a noisy Jazz bass….
But, if the two single coil pickups were reverse wound from each other, and you put the two pickups in series, the result would be the equivalent of……a Pbass (with the two pickup halves separated a couple inches and wide enough to pickup all strings).
The possibilities are “limitedless”……
Eddie Jackson from Queensryche has been doing this for a long time. Like 20 years now. A Mike Lull P5 with two J pickups.
My Jazz with the pickups in series sounds very similar to my PBass with the Jazz having very slightly less high end. They sound even more alike if both basses have flat wound strings on them. Two pickups listening to each string at different points gives you comb filtering that is VERY different than what you get from a split P (which listens to each string at only one point). They won't sound at all alike.
it looks like its been done?
I'd go one step further and suggest a PP (both P's being single coil)!
This!
Now we're talking!
Need to cut one that fits correctly Must be good enough for Ferner's in Memphis. They offer a custom PJ Deluxe using that exact layout using Lollar pickups and a John East preamp.PJ with a singlecoil P instead of a split P
I have a 54 P bass in production and I REALLY want to add a J pup near the bridge. DOOOOO IIITTTTTTTTTT. Why not? Its just just a J bass. It will have subtle differences tho be very close.PJ with a singlecoil P instead of a split P
It looks great! I look forward to a report when it's done.I built this one earlier this year. Slab body as is my wont
Dual poles per string of a jazz single coil easy span the wider string spacing at the bridge but they don't have the same attack as a 51 single coil. I like 51 single coils so had a pair made
Single coil at the neck is the standard 54mm pole to pole, ALNICO 5 wound to 8.5k OHM.
At the bridge pole to pole is 58mm, again ALNICO 5 but reading 9.5k OHM; it's also RWRP for hum cancelling.
Still WIP.
Stock Fender scratchplate is offNeed to cut one that fits correctly
Thinking a mini switch pickup selector might better than the V/V/T set up it has now.

Alpher makes a double P51 :

And a demo if you swipe to the 8th clip :
It's piezo. What's the story of wee Jimmy no-pick-ups on the left? Under the scratchplate? Piezo, maybe?![]()
