I believe he's talking more of the original 'style' P bass, with single coil, which looks different than a modern jazz pup, rather than the J 'style' single coil, but, as you said, it would be for all intents and purposes, a jazz bass, just a tad different looking.

Well looky there! Yes, that's what I was thinking about. Or possibly the suggested 2-singlecoil P configuration. And I would want a 54 style body with the contours.

If the two single coils were not opposite wound from each other, the result would be the equivalent of a noisy Jazz bass….

But, if the two single coil pickups were reverse wound from each other, and you put the two pickups in series, the result would be the equivalent of……a Pbass (with the two pickup halves separated a couple inches and wide enough to pickup all strings).

The possibilities are “limitedless”……

I had that exact model with the J added. I also added stacked VT for each pup.

I don't think it'd been confirmed, but sources say there's a J pickup under that J pickup cover. A Chris Squire Tele bass.

Nordstrand has a 51 P jazz bass pickup. I haven't tried them, but they seem pretty awesome.

That has the wrong pickups. I'm talking about singlecoil precision pickups, not jazz pickups. That's a cool looking bass though!
