No, we're not. Tone is the fantasy of people who don't understand music.
Tone doesn't matter? You'll be telling us next that your bass doesn't have a tort scratchplate...

I go on here and guitar center, and craigslist everyday. hahahaha, any advise to avoid getting it?

Omg, I have the worst G.A.S

Markbass Super Synth
I had a look at their promotional video on YouTube. At the risk of contracting a slight case of GAS myself, I'll ask:
What kind of applications do you have for its synth mode? Can you point me to some music where the bassist—possibly you!—uses similar effects? It is so far outside of my limited experience that I'm now extremely curious to hear how effects like that would fit into a tune.
Buy the best and buy it once. If money isn't an issue this should be easy.![]()
Avoiding GAS?
Quit TalkBass.
Married and have a few kids. Barely enough time to sleep..Get married so you never have time to play.
This reminds me of a festival gig I played a few years ago. While waiting for our time to play, I was listening to another band. Bass sounded fantastic in FOH. I was completely enjoying how nice the bass sounded and was mixed just right. Afterwards, I walked up to the stage to compliment the bass player and ask about all the great gear. He was playing a Squier Jaguar bass plugged direct in to a budget DI. Very eye opening moment for me.To avoid GAS, I do the following mind exercise:
I recall that gig I visited once. The bassist there had a Squier P bass, a 112 combo amp and an octave pedal.
His gear was well below $1000 new.
He was a studied musician and he and his tone totally kicked lower backside.
Then I proceed to steer my mind along the following path:
1. All my gear already is either top notch or at least very high quality.
2. Exercising my ability to play will have a bigger impact on my tone than upgrading any piece of gear.
3. When I upgrade part X of my gear to part Y, who, apart from me, will notice (using ears only)?
Just stop looking at stuff. You have all you need. What you want can wait...right?Omg, I have the worst G.A.S, lol. How do I avoid it? I really love all the gear I am playing through. I just had bought a new bass last year (Mex Fender PJ bass-4 string) and one gifted to me this past summer (5 string American P-Bass). My amp head is only about 2 years old and my speaker cabs aren't that bad either. Although my 4x10 is alittle heavy. Money isn't an issue, so that's part of the problem. I just can't help it. I need help! lmao. I go on here and guitar center, and craigslist everyday. hahahaha, any advise to avoid getting it? I don't want to purchase anything new for this entire year if possible just because I feel like it is a vicious cycle. Is there like GAS Anonymous group? Any advise would be greatly appreciated

hahaha, I am lucky that my wife supports my playing since all my gigs pay or the ones that dont are fun (like opening for a national act). I play 2 gigs a weekend throughout the year so every other gig I am putting away in our savings, or buying something we need, I think this helps greatly in this catergory. Plus where I keep my gear is all nice and neat.I think the only cure for GAS is either financial issues, or a wife angry about all the basses in the house.
My Advice is don’t worry yet. You don’t have that much gear. And you don’t love the gear you have. There is not a problem until you have over 10 basses. I have 40.
