OK - my advice is to forget about a career in music. I know I'm older than dirt, but the people I've met in life that had the passion to pursue their dream no matter what the cost didn't ask anyone if they should. If you are really passionate about something, you go for it. I played full time in the 70's, but never 'made it.' However, the lessons I learned and the experiences I had have enriched my life in ways I can't even describe. I started a thread on TB a few years back. Almost all of the people that tried to 'make it' were glad they tried even though they failed. Based on all of your posts, you don't want it bad enough.

2. (A long and more complex, and much more difficult way). Go to school/college to learn music - Theory (!!!), composition, arrangements, reading/sight-reading, etc...
(It does NOT(!!!) need to be those highly advertised colleges unless you have money and connections).
While in school, also learn the recording "ropes".
There are always a lot of "poor" but very talented musicians around in school. Joined them, help them to "blossom", etc...

In short.
After a school, you should be an "open-minded" musician
a. who is very comfortable with reading the charts, notation,
b. who is knowledgeable in Harmony, Composition, Song-writing, arrangement, etc...
c. who is a very comfortable to be around for any kind of music style musicians,
c. who does not have a family/its responsibilities and is comfortable to travel, to tour, etc...

I understand, you want a normal life with GF, etc.; therefore,
you should take the Youtube way.
I know you are not Anna Sentina or Marta Altesa (SHUT UP, WUTP!), which means that no youtube channel could provide you with enough money, but...

You have friends at TB, and those "friends" like WUTP can help you to set up the "Right way" your youtube channel.
You will be recording your the bass guitar noodling for your youtube channel.
And you will have quite a few subscribers while playing the bass guitar.

Here is my "idea".
Your youtube channel will be (or could be called) "A bedroom bass player", and...
....
....
and a "mean" GF who hates your bass playing".

Here is my plot.

You situate yourself comfortably on the bed in front of your "youtube" camera and start playing something (it does not matter what) on the bass, and suddenly, your GF shows up and starts arguing with you in front of the camera
like, "Jay, you completely forgot about me. Can't you kiss me?, etc...".
You can extrapolate my idea further...

Next episode.
You start playing the bass in front of the camera while your GF is trying some new clothes or swimsuits in the background...

In short.
Your youtube channel provides enough money for you to live a normal life with your GF.
