How to deal with a custom builder that misread the spec requests?

Right. Its roasted before becoming a neck.

To those going after the OP they did not say they are sure its their bass. The question was....if ultimately when I get this bass it WAS my bass or there is a spec messed up how do you proceed? The photo brought up a concern and a question but not real allegations. (At least that is how I read it)

“Hey sweet looking bass, is that mine?”
I'd go with "Cool looking bass - almost like mine; I can envision how mine will look with the roasted neck"

Do they roast a neck before or after carving it?
Absolutely not - the purpose of roasting a neck is to relieve the stresses in it, so that it's a stable piece of wood. If you do this after carving, the thing will likely warp. Roasting is done as a blank.

I will not mention who the builder in question is but I will mention they are a one man operation as far as I know.

Ordered a custom bass with an approximate wait time of one year. I requested a roasted maple neck. Recently I saw the builder post a photo on their Instagram of a bass(not completed yet) that matches the specs I requested but with a standard maple neck. 99% it is mine as it lines up with the timeline that I was given. I’ve yet to receive completed photos of the bass but I’m starting to get anxious.

I’m curious if anyone has been in a similar situation and how you decided to move forward.

Thank you
Why post here vs just contacting the builder directly??

Either way I'm confident I'll have a bass in the end.

This may be surprising, but it doesn't take a year to build a bass, even in a 1 man operation. He can't make a living building 1 at a time. He probably has several in process and some may have a similar design to yours. The only way to find out is to contact him. Second guessing and worrying about a picture you saw will get you nowhere IMHO.

If it’s in writing, I can’t see you would be obligated to accept it any way other than what is written. At a minimum, you could use it as a point of price renegotiation if you liked all other features of the bass.
