How to forget the dents?

When I was a little kid and I got a scratch, dent, etc. on a new toy, my father would always say, "Now you know it's REALLY YOURS!" That never failed to make me feel better.

I've never owned an instrument that I felt like I had be on alert all the time about protecting it.

I remember on particular jam I went to where someone had this beautiful large body electric guitar. He constantly worried over it and had to keep making sure other musicians didn't get to close with their instruments. If it were me, I'd either leave the guitar at home or find a spot far enough away from anyone to not have to worry about it.

I currently own 10 basses. They range from a Squier Jag to a Custom Shop Precision. They all gig heavily and all wear a lot of dents, dings, scratches, and paint chips. They all have a cool story to tell and were made from making music and memories. Embrace it!
