How to get a Stuart Zender tone?

Hi I was just wondering what sort of setup I would need to get a Stuart Zender sort of tone when he was in Jamiroqai, it almost sounds “farty” if you know what I mean?. I know a lot of this is done though your fingers and I would say I play a lot like him (physically) but I just need a set-up that is also going to compliment this. I know he used a V8 but is there something that could replace this and what cabs did he use and what cabs could I pick up regularly that would emulate this.

Thanks

Tim

he used warwick streamer stage I and II 5vers. He also used a fender precision on a couple of tracks. he used trace elliot amps and cabs. i believe a 4x10 or 2 of them.

the funk's all in the fingers man. listen to his work then try and cop the lines and licks. if you can play along with it, you can emulate his tone.

I think it takes more than vegetable juice. Although that would account for the"farting" tone you refer to. :smug:

He does have a great sound, but as is the case with many artists, it doesn't have a lot to do with his "stage" or "touring" rig. It's good playing on a decent bass into a nice Di into a nice PA or studio mixer.

lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of compression, especially if you are talking about the TWM album. It doesn't hurt to use warwick basses, like the SSI or SSII. I can get close enough for my purposes with my ken smith. He also use a Boss ME6B and ME8B for effects.

I definitely think it has more to do with his technique, his bass, and liberal use of compression, than anything do with amps.
