How to Get sub-19mm-String-Spacing on a Spector 4 String?

Can I just use 5-string saddles and shim either side w coins?

Does the string spacing feel any better for you with the traditional Spector/P-Bass 1.64" nut width rather than the 1.5" Jazz nut width on the Wimbish?

The Ian Hill, for example. (Which he uses Bb Eb Ab Db live)

Both my previous Spectors were the wider 1.64" nut. Loved the sound, but couldn't get around the string spacing at both ends of the neck.

To be honest, I'd be fine with the 1.64" nut if the bridge spacing were tighter--that's how my Gibson is: 1 & 5/6" (or so) at the nut, but 17.5mm at the bridge.

Playing with fingers I can almost put up with the 19mm spacing... but I'm doing a lot of faster picking in this current project and 19mm makes the string crossings a royal pain.
