And, I did have a hidden budget agenda. I am probably below the poverty line, so spending 1/6th of my yearly income on a bass is not an option at this time.

Do you still have the Schecter 5? I think the most important thing to make the transition smooth is to have the same string length and familiar neck shape to your favorite fretted bass. If the Schecter and the G&L are the same or very similar that way, maybe a fretless Schecter neck for the Elite 5? I wouldn't mess around with the G&L. Too nice a bass to experiment on. Ideally, sell the Schecter and get an identical G&L without frets. But on a limited budget, that might not happen as easily.

Actually, my MM is now my #1 stage lover. So I would actually like to get another but in black. I am just going to save up my pennies for the MM I really want.
