How to make a full bass sound

Active pickups are not the same as adding a pre-amp....this thread http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f38/replace-passive-pickups-active-emgs-1005388/ got a little hairy and scary but once I went into the physics behind the electronics a few lights came on. Basically passive create current from the string movement, true active pickups are loaded with a small amount of current and the circuitry is sensing the fluctuation in current. Not the same thing which is why they are close but still apple vs pear. PAssives with a pre-amp won't sound like actives.

I've been very happy with my recently acquired BC Rich Paolo Greggolotto(Trivium) Warlock - the neck thru is loaded with EMG's latest and greatest active pickups. Great punch.

I have used the BD121 along with a compression pedal which give me good results

Yup ! i have found that the setting i used to set is using for slapping. Now i'm now using the SVT Setting (from the manual and copy a little bit from Sansamp setting) with a little bit more gain and low-mid on the amps. Sound now is better than it used to.
