how to play fast jaco-style repeated 16th notes

great technique from Matt Garrison here:

Port of Entry is definitely one of Jaco's most vicious solos. It sounds pretty simple to the ear, there are no really wild shapes in it. But the stamina he displays, and the quality of his technique is astonishing. He gets those notes bang on, rapid fire, absolutely perfect. Don't forget though, he was a known perfectionist and definitely not a 'one take' guy, so you're hearing the fruits of his best takes on the record! Zawinul always said that there was no-one who could 'burn' 16th notes like Jaco could!

I don't think the MG four finger technique is called for here. Not that it isn't an amazing thing in it's own right, but if you want to do it like Jaco did then you'll be looking to use two fingers. Play it real slow, with a metronome, and build it up from there. Once you're up to a reasonable speed, the next step is probably more mental than physical, but you'll have to make the jump and just go for it. Blast those notes out, and record yourself doing it so you can listen back!
