How to troublsheot speakers

Please excuse this question, but how do I troubleshoot speakers?

I have an EMX312 running 2x BR15's set up in my jam room and they're not sounding the same. One isn't as crisp and I suspected maybe the horn could be a problem but I'm not sure how to actually test a speaker to check its working properly. I tried playing music quietly to isolate the fault but couldn't, so tried cranking it a bit and of course in a 5x5m room still couldn't isolate it. There's like a crackling sound on the left and the speaker I have my ear to doesn't thump...until I move away from it and go to the other speaker on the other side.

Any ideas? I thought the bass "moving" might be a phasing/direction issue, but that wouldn't cause the crackling too, would it?

Make sure the amp is not at fault. Connect the faulty cab to the channel with the good cab and viceversa.
Listen to each speaker by itself

Do a battery test to check if the Woofer and tweteer are working and wired properly.

If you can get to the front of the speaker, place your thumbs and pointing fingers at four points equally spaced around the outside edge of the dust cover. Very gently push toward the back so that you exercise the excursion of the speaker. If you feel any resistance other than the stiffness of the cone and surround, or if you can feel any grittiness, sticking, or vibration, or if you hear a scraping noise, you need to get the speaker reconed.
