How would define "bad music"?

Colloquially I'll refer to something as "bad music" if it doesn't appeal to me for any of the following reasons: it is overly formulaic (often by design), unimaginative, lacking in any display of musical talent either in the writing or performance of the piece (harmony, rhythm, lyrics, phrasing, etc.). But in reality I don't think such music is necessarily "bad". If pressed I'd probably say that the music in question is devoid of artistry more than its actually being bad. Performance is another thing. I think the standards for measuring a "good" performance are pretty clear and widely accepted.

I agree with you for the most part but there are quite a few people that are considered "legends" with a career full of live, and some studio performances, that those standards don't seem to apply to.
