How you stand when gigging on stage

How do you play when gigging on stage?

Sitting??!?!?!?!

Who the hell sits on a real gig? =)

You didnt mention the ox stance...just stand in front of your amp and let the noted bring the house down.

I do. I have a prostetic leg and while I have no problems getting, I have to be aware of my surroundings (I can't feel with a pegleg) I want to be able to concentrate on my playing and not worry about falling over a power strip or anything. Plus I lost "my tapping foot".
I don't si in a chair, but in a stool.
And I'm rockin' back and forth, shakin' my hair around and giving the best power stance that you can do, in a sitting position.

I sit down out of necessity.

Given a bad back injury and the often weighty nature of our selected instrument, I have to sit down.

I have a tall bar stool with back rest and several foot rests for small group/solo shows.

For larger group performances I have a Roc'n'Soc bicycle seat drum throne with back and seat kicker so I can feel that low end with the monitor mix.

As much as I'd like to get up and move more I now let my playing generate the excitement, plus I find it easier to pull off more difficult playing and singing...

"Ahh the serious musician..

After looking @ your profile I understand why you would call a bassist having fun groovin his/her way & entertaining the crowd a "poser"

If my body dont hurt the next mourning I was'nt rock'n it Hard Enuff!:bassist :"

Not quite sure what my profile tells anyone other than the fact that I'm 57 years old and have decent equipment. I've made a living with a bass of some sort for close to 40 years. Yeah, I'm a serious musician; didn't realize that was something to sneer at. I move when the spirit moves me, not according to whatever might look cool. If I'm in pain after a gig, I've done something I didn't need to do, and I haven't lasted as long as I have injuring myself playing. It's not a contest of physical strength and endurance, it's music. If you want to jump around, by all means, do so. I neither want or need to; my playing speaks for itself. If you can play what you need to play while you're running around, GREAT!! The part I find silly is working out one's "spontaneous" moves beforehand.

It all depends on the moment. If the band is really together I've been known to hop a bit! Slower tunes tend to be standers. The size of the stage is also a factor. Back when I was in a six piece band we played a club that had a tiny stage. It was so crowded I had to do a Bill Wyman.

Generally I like to let the music move me, but I have no particular moves. Seems kinda Zenish.
