Human Gear ANIMATO

Mine arrived today at work. The guts aren't going to tell any quick tales I'm afraid.

1) The circuit is split and contained inside of two shielded plastic boxes that are mounted to the bottom of the case. There is a battery 'sling' that is fixed between them.

2) It's deep, nearly twice as deep as a normal pedal of it's footprint. I didn't notice this before.

Quick innards shot with my phone.

Yea, the pedal is the same size as the older MJM pedals.

the tone is weird. It hits a certain frequency all the time, hence the nasel sound.

I really have to record some clips.

so far I have found three examples of the pedal that are easy to get to here...

MUSE: Osaka Jam (Search youtube) it is used after an OC-2. I have verified this by arranging my board the same way, and this is dead on tone, especially playing a Pedulla through a marshall....

Muse: Hyper Music. The pedal is blended with dry bass. It really is the only way to play with this thing...

Muse: Uprising. At least I think. It sounds very close to the OC-2/Animato pedal combo, just very tight, which leads me to believe a gate was used.

From http://www2.gol.com/users/yagi/

Very it is strike - Shaun D which has the feeling good distortion. Anima - [to] is wild, in addition is [sumu] - [zu]. In other words, the variable range very can be wide, be adapted to many musics. But, this is not a that much high [ha] - dollar in developing. Though whether or not high [ha] - dollar probably is strike - Shaun beauty of [to] - [n] and D which attack (contour) will be secure. Probably becomes the object of first interest, probably is strike - Shaun some kind of D, but speaking simply, feeling it is good, it is summarized to the notion that where weariness does not come. As for the rut/rat (OLD) which usually, is called distortion with the good distortion although [to] - [n] becomes thin. In addition, distortion and [gushiyatsu] which are seen in many ones and become turbid and it collapsed, hear distortion, any these things and anima - [to] which it does not withstand are unrelated. Of course, there are times when power is shown at the time of pointing which is also this kind of ones but it is not ideal. If anima - [to] that is heard whether it is unique, it is NO. But, this [to] - [n] is strike - Shaun ideal D for me. The variable range to be wide as for attack being attached, reacts to [vuoriyu] - [mu] of the guitar securely. If [sumu] - [zu] [te] - pas - [vuoriyu] - [mu] is used, from [sumu] - [zu] it can attach [intone] - Shaun. Assuming, that you used with D strike - Shaun full opening, metallic material feeling and the contour are not lost, they are possible to start sending the distortion which has the musical interval without borrowing the power of the amplifier.

The Animato is very versatile and can be adjusted to suit many genres of music, but without being overly-expensive. (rambles on about different controls...) The RAT can become thin and turbid, which the Animato does not do. There are times when it can sound like one, but it is not its recommended usage. The Animato is not unique, but it is ideal for certain styles of music. It can achieve a very strong distortion without harming the amplifier.

That's what I got out of that.

That looks liek my old one Grygrx. When you get it - what do you reckon the switch does? :)

What the hell does the switch do? I played with it for about 15 mins just flipping it back and forth. It sounded like maybe MAYBE the left side had a touch more resonance (re: ringing, looseness). I even tried it with the guitar to see if it was a frequency thing...

Anyone know?

Yeah it looks like the Animato is a rat'ish type pedal. He goes on and on about Shaun D, anybody know who that is?

He has an Animato Forte too which mentions the Fuzz Face and uses a germanium transister.

I really like those Muse examples. Osaka Jam reminds me of Pantera's Cowboys From Hell. Nice Tone on the drive I must say. May have to scare up one of these for myself.

I would really like to know when I became a pedal guy?

I heard it was discontinued, however when I bought mine from Japan, they stated it had a chip, and they would order a new one. I guess it is still available, or the potential to find a new one over there is real.

GRYGRX: If you have Toasted's old one... Then there are not many around. I have serial number 275, which is 74 higher than yours, and mine I got last year... Toasted sold his years ago. Maybe they are really rare to the point that I think we are the only two with them on talkbass...

I still have the box, and instructions and everything for mine. I can't read them at all, but I have them.

I also cannot figure out the switch. I have tried both sides and nothing seems to be that much different, but I have mine in a loop, with an active bass... Could make a difference.

1) Any chance you could scan those instructions and send me a copy?

2) The switch, I've tried it with four basses and a guitar. Still really have no idea... maybe it's a phase inversion or something.

I am sure I can get a copy to you some how...

Now if I only had a scanner... I'll think of something.

You planning on a review of the pedal???
