Human Gear ANIMATO

IMO That video on youtube is terrible. You can't show the pedals potential by starting with IMO a bad bass tone...better clips please.

I think grygrx tone was fine, a little trebly [for me] but fine.

Isn't this a guitar pedal? Yes I know guitar pedals "work" on bass;). But some guitar pedals like the Rat, Ds-1, Vox tonebender ect actually have components that cut low lows to remove "rumble" and "muddyness".... Was the builder trying to make a rat for bass? Or just a better sounding rat?

From what I've gathered from various translations of the info available to me thus far (I'm exoecting a physical copy of the manual soon) the builder was trying to do kind of a reverse Ruetz mod to keep it high gain, and increase high end sizzle that guitarists covet so much. It's intended to be "wild" in the gain department yet articulate and not muddy. (Mind you this is mostly quasi-informed speculation on my part.) It's NOT a bass designed pedal, but a guitar pedal that Chris W. chooses to use on bass. It sounds pretty crazy in parallel w/a Barber Dirty Bomb w/the bass & inner sub-bass knobs cranked. I'll prolly try running it parallel w/the ValveDrive next, since that pedal has some crazy low end to it as well, and it's a li'l less noisy that the Dirty Bomb.

Let me rephrase what I said, not taking back what I said, but this pedal is the center of the Muse pedal discussion paired with the Akai Deep Impact. Chris's tone is great, round, punchy and smooth. I know this is not everyone's ideal tone, but there was no hint of that in the video. It's hard to get a good sense of what the pedal can really do based on the videos IMO. I hope I have not offended anyone, I just did not find the video all that informant.

Kudos on having the pedal however :)

Points
1) I want to display what an average person can expect when plugging in an effect pedal. Pedals very rarely "make the man" and I think you would be surprised how accurately reflected the pedal is here.

2) I have neither the skills, desire, nor the gear to try and emulate anyone.

3) My goal is neither to extend or debunk "mythic" pedals, simple to add to the information available. Some people react strangely when things don't sound as when used by famous examples, I suggest that everyone who picks up a stratocaster doesn't sound like Hendrix. It is simply one piece of the chain.

4) You'll be happy to hear that the pedal has already been sold to someone who should appreciate it more than I.

I totally understand where you are coming from on the average person notion and agree with you on the fact that pedals rarely make the man. I'm more a plug and play guy myself as well. And your Hendrix line holds all the water...

I was not making a joke on my last line. I thought it was rather an interesting and great pedal to have as the fuzz guy :)

Do you know how the guy is using it that you sold it to?
I have found that I really just love a simple Maxon OD and Russian Big Muff for fuzz and try to keep it pretty simple with that. Live I just run the OD and a korg pitchblack into an svt av and 810 av with a p bass. Try to get rid of all the extra stuff.

yeah if my calculations are right, its still just under £300 GBP - for that price, im not supprised its still available - with a Rat II being had for around £70 GBP new.

I don't see the comparison. The rat sounds like a rat. The animato sounds like the animato. Two different beasts IMHO.

Last I heard they were sold out, but you can try and contact them through the english side of the site:

Ishibashi Music

Hey - Try Contacting Sakiko at Ishibashi Music in Japan using Email: intl at ishibashi dot co dot jp. He is extremely helpful and will I'm sure he'll get you one of these little beasts, I managed to get one imported to the UK ( October 2011 ). All good, no damage and was with me in about 10 days from Paying through. I had to pay 20% tax (VAT) on it though which was hefty but the pedal is extremely good and has become a fantastic addition to my board playing muse covers or not. p.s, it took a couple of days for him to respond.

Honestly, not sure, but I'll say this, I hear no real change in the tone when switching it back and forth.

Also, I heard a rumor, that an Italian pedal maker has copied this pedal, and was selling them for $50... I am looking into getting more info, but don't hold your breath.
