(Humor) Ooohhh it’s a Yamaha

Ooooh, it's a Moto GP Yamaha, with The Doctor at the helm. From some years ago, YZF M1 with Valentino Rossi aboard, I think 2019.

I knew this thread was going to trigger @J Wilson with either motor-sickles or pee-annas... :roflmao:

(I think he likes Yammy-haw basses too.) ;)

I love my yamaha. I've got the RBX170; it was the first bass I bought about 10 years ago. I gave it to my son a few years back as a present and just recently, traded my MIM P-bass with him to get it back. The only thing I don't like are the VVT controls. So, this weekend in fact, I'm putting in a preamp that uses a blend knob.

I also have a beater Yamaha RBX 170. Potentiometers are cheap. Hope you will post info and pictures if you do upgrade and which preamp you use, as well as a review if you do. For the $75 I paid it is well worth it even though previous owners did not treat it well.

When you look at this pic of Vale aboard the M1, you're looking at the onboard tech st work:

MotoGP bikes run extremely complex traction control software. With 240+ bhp in a sub-400 lbs bike, even the best riders in the world would have problems with constant wheelies. So in this pic, it allows for about a foot of front wheel rise then backs off just enough to put the front wheel back on the ground. Works straights and turns, and is actually queued turn by turn via GPS, and each track has its own program. There was a case several years ago where the bike was unrideable. No one could get a handle on the problem until the data guy realized they'd loaded in Catalunia. . . but they were at Mugello!

I got the Seymour Duncan 2-band active preamp. I didn't realize I had to buy a stacked 250k pot, so waiting on that. Also ordered a larger control cavity cover because I will need to make the cavity bigger to accommodate the electronic and battery.

The bass used to look like yours, red metal flake paint, but many years ago, I stripped it down and put a walnut veneer on it. It looked okay, but was my first attempt at doing any kind of refinishing, so wasn't great. During this little mod I'm doing now, I kinda just started sanding and cleaning it up. It's mid-way through and I'll post up some pics when I'm done.
