My response would simply be to say "No." I remember when my employer instituted a "mandatory" program called "Stretch and Flex" (we jokingly called it "Scratch and Sniff") whereby everyone had to come into the hallways at 10am and do various calisthenics together. I said nothing but simply refused to participate (I don't like being told I have to do something that is outside of the scope of what I'm paid to do). When my manager told me he needed me to participate, I said "No, I'm not going to do that" and continued on with my work. I never heard anything further about it.

In your situation, if I kinda did want to sing a song, I'd probably do "Working in a Coal Mine" or "9 to 5". Or maybe "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"--all the verses, very slow, and slightly off-key--and do the electric guitar riff between the verses on harmonica (badly).

I would make a song about them, or people who have similar names and jobs anyhow. As long as it's ridiculous and not mean (i.e.: no punching down) it can land really well. A friend and at one point a colleague is an HR guy so one time I made a song that was to be played in his presence about an HR guy who shares the same name who enjoys firing people and whose face got eaten by streptococcus bacteria. Unfortunately I never got a chance to play it in front of coworkers (I was hoping to do so at a similar "mandatory fun" kind of event, but it never worked out) - but I did record a version that I sent to his wife which resulted in much joy.

Making a song that works at this type of thing I think is a good way to show off your skills, but also shows that you are paying attention, and if cleverly written can also be a giant middle finger to the event without getting people offended. That's what I would do, anyhow.

1. You'd like to keep your job
2. You'd like to receive positive accolades from your peers
3. You'd like to embarrass the middle management who volunteered you in front of their leadership (in a way that does not invite reprisals)

We were playing a corporate party at a large marina. A pile of money people there and, you could be blinded by jewelry reflection. That song was was requested 3 times. We played it, ( winged it) and smiled doing so.
