I think most of the Winger bashing comes from;
  1. Beavis & Butthead
  2. Lars throwing darts at his picture, as if he's one to mock.
  3. The amount of ladies that loved them.
  4. That videos aren't "live" performances, and therefore you're free to point, spin, and remove your hands from the neck.
I also think that people are very much not putting their singles into the context of the time in music. It was the trailing edge of Hair Metal, and something they could rightfully use to sell units. If you have the hair, the pearly whites, and the sexy stare you'd have done it too. ;)

I also bring up "singles" because from their second album onward they have a fairly strong progressive rock vein running through them, clearly showing the musical prowess contained within the band. Yes, Rod and Reb are masters of their instruments but you don't get to be a session/touring musician without some chops, which Kip has in abundance. If you've ever heard him play fretless bass or acoustic 12-string guitar, I think some statements would be taken back.

An interesting 'lil note... their opening band for some shows in 1988/89? Dream Theater. :smug:
