I am getting an old 71 ampeg v4 head, what cab?

I want a cab that is under a metre tall and suits the v4.
I want good wooly vintage reggae funk bass tone.
I want it to suit the V4 size and look.
What would you recommend and what would be the best way to obtain such a thing seeing as I am in New Zealand.
Thanks,
Roman.

A 215 cab is nice. The head doesn't match a lot of cabinets because of the width. The V4B measures 26 ⅝" wide X 9 ¾" high X 11 ⅛" deep. The foot positions on vintage Ampeg cabinets span 19 ½" X 7".

Building one can be more cost effective although not necessarily so. You might find this thread interesting to check out: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/custom-diy-2x15-cab-build.854517/.

First line in the O.P's post is "under a meter tall" For us American guys , that's under 39". The 8 10 is 4' tall so too tall there. My 2 15's are 40"tall (just a hair over 1 meter.) Ampeg 6 10 is also listed at 40".If it absolutely has to be under 3 meters , you're probably gonna need a 2 12 or a 4 10'.

How did you go from 1m = 39" ( which is close enough) to 40" = 3 m? :)

3m is actually around 118"! . I would say that for this situation an inch is close enough so anything below or equal to 40" should be fine.

Yes, I am not an expert on ampeg cabs. So I was hoping for the distilled knowledge of those who are. I do understand that the V4 is wider than most heads.
I have read that a V4B cab is one of the biggest heaaviest things around. And you only hear the bass a few metres away from the cab.

My other understanding is that larger speakers have less transients, so just lower tones. Seems appropriate but I would have to test in person to understand the relevance of that. Maybe a minor point.

So in short I guess I just want to know what ampeg cabs of roughly waist height as opposed to head would be good for my criteria.

What ampeg cabs are the same width and waist height for the V4 for bass?
What do I search ebay for?

I think I may simply be trying to whittle down the ampeg bass cabs that are wide enough for the v4 and are waist heightish.
Sounds like there was a 2 by 15, a 4 by 10, and a 2 by 12. And they were all under 40 inches.

Right now I am thinking get an empty V4 cab from ebay and load it with speakers bought locally. It looks the appropriate size and I can save on shipping and guitar speakers I don't want.
Looks the same as the V4 too, funny that.
