I am getting an old 71 ampeg v4 head, what cab?

Ampeg SVT 410HLF or 410HE.

I don't know about over there, but SVT410HE's are commonly found cheap where I live. If you can get one, you can easily install 4 rubber feet in one side of the cab using the existing holes from the corners. Re-position the logo and use the cab on its side. A modern SVT410HE has the exact dimensions of a late '80's model when laying on its side. I just don't know about the lows being enough for you.

Not just "bass speakers", you need speakers that will deliver the performance of the original Ampeg speakers. There was a thread recently which discussed several 15" spreaders in detail. Perhaps someone can suggest other speakers if you decide on a different cabinet.
