I am getting an old 71 ampeg v4 head, what cab?

Not just "bass speakers", you need speakers that will deliver the performance of the original Ampeg speakers. There was a thread recently which discussed several 15" spreaders in detail. Perhaps someone can suggest other speakers if you decide on a different cabinet.

For Reggae funk and if you want to stick with Ampeg the 410hlf should tick more than a few boxes. Goes super deep and a nice match with the V4B
Sorry about that, Roman, I have been using my reissue V4B with a 410hlf and of course it is a perfect fit in sound and tone. So a 1-1/2" overhang on each side is obviously out of the question. Good to see a fellow kiwi into the V4B though

SVT 212AV. Might be an inch of overhang on each side because the cab is 24" wide (IIRC) but it's getting great reviews when used with the V4B.
A little rarer to come by but Ampeg made the B40 cab in the 70s as well. Same width as the V4 but a sealed 4x10. Basically half of the 70s 8X10 but not quite the same internally.
The B40 was a cool cab. I used one back in the day (75 and 76ish) with my V4B. I eventually moved up to an SVT810. I haven't seen one since 1976. coreyfyfe may have the only one left in existence! LOL!
I've owned two now and bought them both off my local craigslist. Based on speaker codes the first one was a 77-78, this one was 75. We have a lot of vintage ampeg gear floating around in the north east though.
Hartke's newer Hydrive cabs have a similar silver-ish hue that seems to match the metal on the v4b reissue pretty well. Also the black tolex is a definite match.
They come in 4x10 and 1x15. I have the 115 and have been thinking about a v4b. I copied and pasted images of both my cab and a v4b together and I think they match quite well aesthetically.

Ampeg briefly made an SVT 412HE. Geezer Butler signature cab. I obtained one recently from a fellow TB'r and couldn't be happier. Goes nicely with my mid 70's V4B except the foot cups don't quite line up. Would be an easy fix if I felt it was necessary. Fliptops will make a matching grille for about $65. It's heavy but a good fit.
