On Saturday, 5/23/26, I am practicing six hours. I won’t do it all at once, but that is goal and intend to do it!
Life (and procrastination) happens.I am not going to make six hours. It looks like I might two hours.![]()

How did they go?It looks like I might two hours.
I'm working on the same thing as you right now. Jared Plane has a video on his YouTube channel called "Five Techniques For Playing Modal Jazz," or something like that, posted a few months ago, which I'm about 65% through. Gets interesting at about the 50% point, when he talks about how to express the chords of the Dorian and Harmonic Minor scales.I made progress.![]()

No, I've seen your videos. I just went in a different direction than you, in terms of what music I play. You are solid and can do things I cannot do, like slap. Check out the video, Jared has things that are easy to understand, and useful. His delivery is dry and dull but he lays things out logically. You are likely more advanced than me.![]()
I retired from my real job four years ago, loving it! For me, playing bass is mostly about perfoming live music and I'm fortunate to now have the time and opportunities to do so. Quite busy this weekend, had six hours of gigs yesterday, seven more today... enjoy your playing time!
Which also answers the oft-asked question "who let the dogs out?"Between eating, taking the dog out three times, napping, looking at YouTube, and watching the WBNA and NBA, I think I got in 90 minutes of practice in 10-20 minute segments. I more than met my goals for the weekend. We played well at church service today too.
Bought it today, thanks for the advice. It seems be exactly what I was hoping for (and so far easy to understand even if Englsh is not my native language). Bought the paper version LOL, in an old book store specialised in music books.Use some that time to read Molly Gebrian's book. It will make your practice time more effective.

Great players, like this one I just posted, are why I am stepping up my practice. I’m tired of being buried by youngsters who were born thirty after I started playing. Now I just have stop taking all of these old man naps.
Hard to match technical chops with the youngsters, but with the wisdom of age, you can choose to play tastier notes!
