Normally she wouldn't care too much but in the past month I've bought 4 basses. #1 was a very belated X-mas gift, #'s 2 & 3 were deals too good to pass up (hell, she had to convince me about #3), #4 she felt was too much of a good thing. She knows I will possibly sell it eventually for a profit, but not anytime soon. Luckily she's over it now but I'm still going to sell off something else so we can get back to our "buy one, sell one" agreement.

Goodwill sometimes let some cool stuff slip through the cracks! Scored a almost mint 70's Epiphone EA360 hollowbody bass and a 1982 Dean ML guitar when I lived in Charlotte bout 2 years ago. That dang Dean ended up Ebayin' for $800! I was shocked!

I give the guy at our local Goodwill a couple hundred a year just to get a call when anything musical comes in. He holds them me for a day. I've gotten a couple of old Martin ukuleles, a killer Boosey & Hawkes pocket trumpet and a Versatone amp. But No basses yet

I've checked around - never found much anything worth anything, except a $12 bike for my daughter...

I always wonder why musicians rip off other musicians. Sure, this is an open economy, but its inconsiderate way of making money. And then you wonder why there are no good deals around. And then you wonder why everything vintage is horribly overpriced. I had this happen to me where I sold a '66 Fender Pro Reverb to whom I thought was a musician. Days later I see it back on craigslist being offered for $500 more than I sold it for. Sorry, had to rant...

That's exactly my tac. I stash a little bit of my "walking around money" every week. I check my local CL throughout the day, then when a smokin' deal surfaces, I pounce on it and flip it for a quick buck (actually, I sometimes keep it if it grows on me while it's for sale).

$50 here, $85 there...it adds up. Once my little stash has grown enough, I get myself a new toy. Just in the last year or so, I got my MiM P-Bass, MiM fretless Jazz and Peavey T-40 that way.

As long as I don't take any food off the dinner table, the Ol' Girl just makes like this: :rollno:

Hmmmm...inconsiderate? ripping off musicians? Them is fightin' words...

Do you think Safeway pays $3 for the gallon of milk they just sold you on the way home from work? How about the brand new USA Fender Jazz Bass you've been saving for? Do you suppose Musician's Friend paid the same $1149 or whatever for it?

Good grief! I don't tell sellers what to ask for a bass and I certainly don't get better than market value when I flip it. What if someday I get the "Mothbass" for $2000 and figure I can sell it for $3000...only i get an offer for $200? Am I still inconsiderate? Am i ripping someone off? It's a free market (or an "open economy", as you say).

I get so sick of people trashing capitalism and the American way. Try Cuba if you think it's so unfair... :mad:
