I bit of dilemma...

Right now i'm looking for a nice 24 fret four string and I was looking around the area of $400. Since i'm a student i don't really have time for a job so it's not as if i could earn the money back after a few weeks of working or something, which is why i'd rather not spend too much. I've found a few: A spector Q4 for under $300, A Yamaha TRB4 for about $400, A Carvin LB70 and a Cort RB4 that i had tried and sold. I'd like the bass to have some bite to it, like a warwick, but i know that for around $400 i'm not gonna get any Godly tone or anything. My question is should i wait until i have a little more money or should i go ahead and buy something now? Other suggestions for good 24 fret 4 strings are definitely welcome.

I doubt you'll find a Carvin LB70 with J99 pickups for under 4 bills, but I think that would do nicely for what you have in mind. The J99s are a sort of Jazz pickup with extra tonal possibilities. I had a Spector Q4 and really liked it, I'm wishing I never sold it. Very good playability and a good variety of tones from the pickups.

Have you looked at the Yamaha RBX bass line? There are some Deans with 24 frets under $400, too. I don't know a thing about them, but you might see if you can find one to try.

They are awesome, and while they don't fully compare to a Corvette Std, they come close for the price. Very, very similar in playability and tone to the Std and lighter, due to the body wood.

Yea i was thinking about that but do they have the Warwick baseball bat necks? Those are really troublesome for me. Basically, i'm looking for my "Wooten-Wannabe" bass so i'd prefer a super fast neck. The Cort RB4 had the best neck EVER but i couldn't get the tone i wanted out of it.

I guess you could call it that... I play one and it is super comfortable in my hands, although I guess have kinda big and wide hands : / You might try to find a local store with a Rockbass in it to try it out to see if the neck is too bulky for you?
