I am looking for a set of normal tension bass strings which are coloured or gold plated.
Something like the DR NEON strings. Invalid Link Removed

The problem I'm facing is that I can only find roundwound versions and I am looking for a set of flatwounds for tonal reasons.
Does anhybody know where I can find this kind of strings?
Flatwound strings with a color.

This?

And even then, the tapewounds are mostly like a Ford Model T: any color you like so long as you like black.

Colors? How about colors of the silks? Depending on the brand and the gauge, you can get black, purple, blue, green, yellow or gold, orange, or red in flats.

Have you tried the folks over at Aurora strings? Even if they're not listed on their site, call them.
They make items not listed. They are typically very nice and helpful

I imagine (and this is only a guess) that it would be much harder to get coating of any kind to stick to those flat surfaces on flat wound strings. Coating on rounds has all those little ridges to get down into. Even then, if you play with a pick, or heavy handed on the fingers (like me) there isn't a coating on Earth that will last very long. Maybe things have changed since I last tried them though.

Also, flat wound users tend to be more traditional. Of course there are exceptions. But that would be like asking Buick to make hot pink cars. There probably isn't enough market for them. Sure, I bet I could Goggle up a pic of a hot pink Buick. That doesn't mean it would be profitable from a manufacturing standpoint.

I don't think it's getting the coating to stick. From a manufacturing standpoint, since the final step of ALL flatwound strings is polishing them smooth (to take care of any high spots or sharp edges left from the ribbon wire), that would effectively polish off any coating that was applied to that flat wire.

Not a bad point.

OK,
I will further see what I will be trying as a next set of strings.
Most people use roundwound strings so it only sounds logical to me that there would only be a very little market for coloured flatwounds/tapewounds. :)

But as this section of the forum goes about strings:
will flatwound/tapewound strings give me a better fretless tone?
With that I primarily mean more of that 'oomph' sound?
Or is it not a very big difference from roundwounds (what I now have on it).
