I cleaned up the music corner!

Nice! I’m envious! We moved house in the middle of last year, and the new place needs a fair bit of work before I’ll get to sorting out my music space. I will end up with a whole room dedicated to it though so it’ll be worth it!

If I had a whiteboard at home with chores to do, I could put 'clean up the music corner' on top of the list with permanent marker instead of whiteboard marker.
I mean it accumulates a certain amount of chaos and keeps it - it looks different every time I did something, but usually the chaos is shifted, not lifted.

^^ That looks like a tidy version of mine. Agree about the clean up music are to-do list though, that's why I did it. I don't have an electronic drum kit, but that will come later. I have to leave space for the pool table too.

Ok, so it's not earth shattering. But you should have seen it before. It had deteriorated into a ...just a big pile of stuff. None of it even plugged in or in any usable shape. What's your practice area like?

My place has this nook off the dining room. It just asks for it. No windows, all walls are inside walls (so perfect for hanging precious instruments) and pretty much dead space due to the weird cut of the ground floor.
But since it is not a shut off area and more or less in plain view, this is as bad as I will let it get. More or less being able to be tidied up in less than 5 minutes by rolling up the cables and stashing them away plus getting rid of the spare pedals.

I’ve ruined any chances of having a meat music room by taking up drums again. All I wanted was a little Ringo set, And now I’ve got way more drums than I would ever need, and I still have to get my Ringo set. But I do have a couple Ludwig drums on the way for that. And then I’m going to stop. You believe me, don’t you?
This is funny, and drummers are out of control :) and love to collect, it just takes a lot more room!

We rehearse at my drummer’s house, and I hear that ‘I’m good now, after this one’ frequently… at one point, this was the view from ‘the best seat in the house’ :woot:

Sheesh! Tuning those drums must take days! Oh well I can’t say I’ll never have a whole bunch of drums since I already have a bunch but I’m pretty sure that I don’t want too many cymbals.

Barticus, all I can say is wow! Beauty!
My musical corner is like Harry Potter's first bedroom with four basses, loose cables, a few mic stands, 2 monitors, extra GK speakers, Roland JV80 keyboard, FX boxes & strings all packed under the staris. I do take up a bit of other basement footprint with a GK 2x10, fx pedals and gtr stand.

It was definitely a time commitment, as I started with just concrete walls and had to build out from there.
I've been involved in some custom HT builds and look like doing more in the future, so I know that's a lot of work.

My trade off, was that I offered to build a workout/game room for the rest of the family  so everybody was happy with my music room
Good move. One end of my space has a pool table, but my previous one I made a custom top for it that fit snugly into the bumpers (also felt lined) so that when I had guests I had a proper, if high dining table. I'm thinking maybe I can move my music area to one corner in that room and move the table and have it all, a bit like you do.

A friend of mine makes repro 80s arcade games and has a nice side business out of it. I'm not a gamer, but he offered me one for helping with the electric design of his, so I might take him up on it for guests too; every time I see him it's one of the first thing he asks. He thinks he owes me but I did it because he was a friend and that's what you do.

This whole music area thing has been rattling in my head all day worse than an ear worm and I've made desk sketches and electrical diagrams on how I'd like it to be and I have work projects to complete.

If that drummer asked me to load in for a gig, I think my back would suddenly start to hurt...

That's an 80's stadium kit and a half.

I do have a small practice area in my home office too but the studio has all of the goodies.

Please, don't show this picture to my wife. I need to start the basement project, what Barticus did is inspiring.

Love the "My Neighbor Totoro" on the right on the couch. Love the look, my music corner is a bunch of jazz books and theory books all stack and all over the place. It's awful to look at. Gotta clean it soon selling some of the old gear in the corner :D! Great pic again!

I have been slowly converting my formal living room area into the practice/recording studio, which used to be upstairs in my bedroom area. Still waiting for delivery of some rackmount items to fill up the desk which will hopefully hide and clean up some of the wiring. It's nice to light the fireplace in the evening and practice or record, although I do have to keep the volume in check due to condo living.
