I did something dumb.

I can't recall cutting a string too short but twice in the last few months I have broken a string when removing the strings for some maintenance. I use a fast winder on a cordless drill and on both occasions had the drill going the wrong way and ..... SNAP!... :banghead:

First time was on my 12 string guitar. That'll be $30 thanks. Not so bad as those Elixir's had been on there for over 7 years and I didn't originally pay for them.
Second time on my SR1200..... that'll be $70 thanks. :bawl: That one hurt as they were a brand new set of ground wound strings I put on to try. I hadn't cut them to length as I wasn't sure i'd want to keep them on that bass. I did like them so I was loosening them off to cut to size when I broke it. I'm still waiting on a set of strings I ordered 4 weeks ago.... just one of the downsides of living on an island in the middle of nowhere.

Rotosound seems to be a great company. I recently purchased my first set of their strings but I had my daughter pick them up from GC on her way over to visit me and she purchased round wounds. Just this year I switched to pressure wound strings and when I put the new set of rounds on I really didn't care for the tone (absolutely nothing wrong with the strings) my ear is not used to such a bright tone. So I sent an email to Rotosound asking if there was anything I could do to mellow out the brightness and they offered to send me a free set of flats to try out! I haven't received them yet but if they sound as good as I think they will I may switch brands.

As my brother the woodworker says, "Power tools just let you screw something up faster."
