At a pawnshop today, I saw a P-Bass style Peavey Fury that was white with a white pickguard that was cracked at the jack. The jack was held in place with a washer. I asked to play it. The neck was straight, the action was low, and it had a killer tone. The owner told me I could have it for $70 and no tax. For that price, I am thinking of buying it and putting on a new pickguard and jack on it when I have time. Maybe a Hipshot D-Tuner too. I could do all of that for $200.

Sorry, my kid (middle schooler, not a baby) was in the car with my phone, so no pictures. It is hard to walk away from Peavey when it plays and sounds as good as a Fender for less than some Ti Flats.

Not too far back, I called Peavey and got one of those 90's pickguards. They still had them NOS. Now ? Worth a call !

Peavey necks are pretty amazing IMO.

I've got two, and I can set the action lower on those two basses than anything else I own. Talk about skating down the fast lane when you're playing one of them!

$70 is a really really good price for a playable Fury. If you do end up getting it be sure to post some pix...

Don't you have about 100 of them already? Geesh Doc! I'm beginning to think you live in a pawn shop!! Around here they're full of top priced Fenders and Gibson. I haven't seen so many Les Paul's since my last trip to GC.

That's a great price. I would grab that in a heartbeat.

However, be aware that there were two slightly different Peavey Fury pickguards. I believe you can source one of them NOS from Peavey but not the other. So it may not be that easy to replace the guard. Personally I'd keep the original on there and use a washer but if you do want to replace it, it is worth a try to call Peavey. The difference in the two styles of guards is hard to see unless you know what to look for, basically on one of them the part that is parallel to the bridge is completely straight, while on the other version it has a slight "S" curve to it. Hard to explain but when you see them side by side, the difference is obvious. I *think* the straight-edge guard is the one that is hard to find a replacement for, while the "s" curve one is more available because it was also used on other Peavey basses. But again, check with Peavey.

I'm going to be the odd man here & say, "If you don't need another, stop going into the shops!".

I bought two basses in quick succession, because I was visiting the shops.
Since I bought the last one I haven't been in the shops & haven't bought any more basses.

It also freed up time for playing/practicing.

The weak point on those is the jack mounted in the pickguard.
I had a Fender JP-90 that was similar, with just a two ply pickguard.
Using a right angle plug helps to keep it from breaking.
