I don't want this nickname

why chili sauce?

You got me. Probably an inside joke.

Our lead guitarist's name is Robert (he's a Deputy D.A.), and he never goes by any nickname, but I just cracked myself up one night when we were coming up on his solo, and I yelled, "TAKE IT, BOBBY!" I was laughing so hard, the rest of the band was chuckling through the whole rest of the song. It was the first and only time any of us had ever called him anything but Robert, and it just came as a shock. He wasn't pissed or anything, but I've never done it since. It would just take the edge off that one time.

Here's what you do...next time he says Mr. Bass, say, "Dude, I really fxxking hate that gxxdaxm nickname, and can we please just fxxking drop it? It's not cool. Keep it up, and we'll start having problems."

That has worked every time someone has tried giving me an idiotic nickname.

(I know...ha ha...I should have said that to myself when I picked my message board handle. I like it, and it's a play on my last name. I've been teased as Mo'FAT ever since some dumb kid thought he was clever. Probably kindergarten or so. My last name is Moffat. I've been Mo'Phat since I started playing bass.)

Another way to do it is to deflect it to something similar, that's more 'you'...so it's still his idea, but something you can actually tolerate. Senor Bajisto or something. Or Mr. Bass (but pronounced like the fish).

But the idea that someone came up with to tell him that you've already got a nickname that you've gone by since grade school is a good one. It could be a brand new nickname, but he doesn't have to know that.

I vote for Coco the monkey.
