I don't want this nickname

No, it's definitely not that. I'm 100% certain that he is doing this because he thinks that nicknames are obligatory. His intentions are clearly good - he's trying to be friendly and welcoming - but the nickname that he has come up with is painfully poor.

Perhaps I should just honour the good intention, and accept this title, agonising though it may be, with good grace.

S.P.

That's an admirable attitude.

If it's really not an issue and you can live with it, why pop his bubble, right?

Along the same lines, but nowhere near as obnoxious, a guitar player I used to gig with openly admitted he couldn't remember names. He'd just called everybody "Steve".

He'd also reach out to shake your hand and upon grasping, he'd tickle your palm with his index finger. He'd do it to see your reaction which, unless you were really weird, was always recoiling with a genuine "EEEWWWW!"

Sorry - I just remembered one more thing this guy would say. He'd alway refer to things that bothered him by saying, "That really gives me worms."

I miss that dude. He was a real blast and quite a killer player to boot! I need to give him a call.

What were we talking about?

could be worse my nickname in my band is "blacksack" after i had a fall at hospital (i had come round from an op and was still high on morphine and went for a walk about)
i fell down some concrete strairs tore a hole in my hip 5 inches accross (which took several stiches to put back together)
the subsiquent bruising turned my lower regions purple/black including my happysack (balls)

at 1st i hated being called blacksack but now i kinda like it and i even sign stuff for the groupies as "blacksack"
and when they ask "why are you called blacksack?" my answer is always simple...... "come with me an i'll show you";)

never fails

Unfortunately, nicknames are given to us by others. We rarely get to choose them. Like other wise men have said, be grateful it's not something much worse. My friend was playing with a group of hard ass cowboys who introduced him to thousands & thousands of fans as "Fiddle Pussy". I'm afraid I might have to fight over that one.
