I don't want this nickname

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Where they haven't been helpful, they've at least been entertaining.

I've decided that I'm just going to relax and accept the nickname. Maybe one day it will be superseded by something else, maybe it will even grow on me. In the meantime, I've updated his entry in my email address book so that his new middle name is 'Mr Guitar', and when he greets me as 'Mr Bass' I will greet him back accordingly.

S.P.
you know for a time Prince wanted everyone to call him Your Funkyness... that is pretty good, about as good as Mr Bass.

Really what it boils down to is respect. If he can't show respect and call you by your name, do you really want to play in this band? You shouldn't have to put up with an unwanted nickname. As I said in a previous post, tell him to call you by your name. If he's not mature enough to comply with your request, do you think he's mature enough to make the band work? Whatever you decide good luck with the band.

Who needs a nick name when your real name is Stylon Pilson. THat name couldn't be any more rock-star.

You should just start calling the singer Madge. if he gets to give you a nick name you should be able to give him one.

I still call people i've known for years "dude" because most of them are not interesting enough to learn their names.
if you are allways up his ass, he'll give you a new name "mother****ing STYLON the ****ing bass player"

but i understand you would rather not be refered to only by your instrument as if you were an interchangeable chess piece.
if thats the case find a new band but beware there one in every band (it takes 1 to recoginize) and things could be alot worse

.

To the dismay of all the guitar players who have protested before, this is the perfect place for "Mr. Guitard" or "Mr. Guitardo" or how about just "Guitard". Seems like I've heard that before.

Now you know how the term originated. :hyper::hyper: If Guitard was in the dictionary, this guy's pic would be right next to it.

IMO, this is a control issue and the Guitard is trying to impose his will on you by making up a obvious nickname. Be prepared for other attempts by him to exert control over the band members.

I also think he's kinda testing you to see what you'll do or say.

IMO, IME, just ignore it and get into the music. But I do think you SHOULD get some Dr. Bass cabs. Now that would be funny.

Good luck with the band.

And when he reacts in disapproval, you can nicely suggest that you prefer your given name as well.

In the mean time, be glad it wasn't "Stinky". That's the kinda name that can stick with a guy.

Feel fortunate, I suppose.

For all my project music, mine is "RickettNation", which the first part is my last name, the nation part comes from the nations of bass lines I use (Mostly, If not all bass parts) How ridiculous is that? :)

Ultimately, he at least added "Mr." to it.

What do you mean by "the nations of bass lines" ?

My email and most of my forum or website logins has been funkybassplayer so for years i have had people just call me Funky. I kinda like it. My nickname for my wife is RockStar.

I still think you should call the singer Madge.
