Ok, I knew someone would say something. This is the honest to God's truth. I was kneeling hunched over with the drill and my daughter's stupid dog mounted me and tried to hump me. Fighting that huge bastard off and next thing I know there is a hole in my headstock.
I can also provide pics of the rapey dog if needed.

Tell everybody you did it to eliminate the dead spots on the G string up the neck. Remind them that a small, perfectly drilled hole through the headstock disrupts standing waves that develop on the flat faces of the headstock, and that your accidental hole also stops the grain of the wood from polarising over time, thus freeing up the upper harmonics making your bass sound "lively", or "nutty" if you prefer your contrived platitudes to follow a culinary theme. Headstock holes free up lower harmonics that are otherwise trapped in the dense wood bass necks are typically made of. Why else would Leo Fender put a strap button on the back of the headstock of his basses? Leo used to tune each bass neck by tapping it and then tightening or loosening this screw, until the perfect balance of harmonics was achieved. This is common knowledge, and any vintage gear head knows about this!!!!

But the hole in the headstock has to be precisely the correct size and in the exact spot of harmonic confluence. And only YOU know where that is...

To prevent this from happening again, I suggest that to teach the dog a lesson, you wait until he is doing something important, (you know, like licking himself), and mount and hump him violently.

My StingRay5 I bought on EBay came with a "professionally" installed hipshot drop tuner. Well it was Swiss cheese on the front with like 6 or 7 holes through the front. I put a stock tuner on, filled with wood putty sealed with clear nail polish. I'm not sure if that's correct or not, but it's what I did. This is my primary player for 8 years. I'm also interested in the correct fix for this by the way.
That's kinda like going to stop your car and your foot slips onto the accelerator..............and you keep driving straight through a whole block of a strip mall instead of just taking your foot off the pedal............why didn't you take your finger off the trigger?
