(TC Electronic RH450 content, and I already know about their power rating controversy ...)
Years ago, I played a solo fretless piece during a show that was recorded live. I was playing a Roscoe bass through an Eden combo. Later the engineer reamped it through some sort of tube amp sim and blended that with the original. I loved that tone so much, but never found the right combination of amp and effects to duplicate it live.
Now I'm playing a Pedulla Buzz, and I was hearing hints of that tone. I like the Buzz better than I did the Roscoe, just comparing the two instruments. But I just added two pieces of gear that are really nailing that tone from the recording: a TC Electronic RH450 head and a 4 ohm Schroeder Mini 12+L cabinet. With the eq fairly flat on the head, dialing up the TubeTone to medium levels gives me that sound that I've been missing. I'm really in love.
Power-wise, this combination handles a lot of my gigs, either small shows with no FOH support or medium ones with FOH. I just played a show with this bass and cabinet and a TC BH250 head and had more than enough volume. I can't wait to try the RH450 into a larger 4 ohm cab to see if the same tone carries over to a different cab capable of handling my louder gigs. And I'm curious to see how much of that tone comes across through the DI as well.
