Look at the bottom of the link and it will date your Peavey by serial number if it is older than 95... You can also send the serial number to the Peavey Forum and they will date it for you.

First, a USA made Peavey is always a good bass, no matter what the cost (within reason) But a free USA Peavey? Well then that's just the deal of the century!

For free I'd expect a neck bowed so much the bass would double as a bow and arrow set...or have no headstock or something, but a perfectly fine, functioning bass that would probably sell in the 3 to 400 dollar range?

I feel so inadequate right now....

To the OP, I too, hate you...

I've owned and played MANY US Peaveys and I've NEVER seen one with a bowed neck, especially the two piece ones. They used well aged wood back in the day

By wikkipedia it looks to be a 95 or 96. The pickups on fury's are pretty solid. This will give an American P- Bass a run for its money, and will blow MIM's out of the water. Nothing better than 80's and 90's peaveys.

And now for some unsolicited advice. I don't know where this is coming from really, but something tells me you shouldn't do any mods to this bass. Clean it, set it up, and play it, but leave it stock.

a buddy band's bassist plays a peavey fury, and I picked it up to mess around with while our two bands were waiting offstage, and I really liked it! I started playing it and said "uh oh" and everyone looked at me scared like "what happened?" and I said "Uh oh, I like it."

me + cheaper gear + liking = impulse buy.

lucky for me it was her only bass!

I'd pose the opposite (not that I think you don't deserve it). You got a free bass - now EARN IT. Play/practice your ass off. Play gigs you might at first pass up just for the opportunity to play.

Excellent acquisition! A USA Peavey is at least as good as any Fender made from the same period; it's just not worth as much money.
