I got my Xotic XJpro. OMG!!!

For starters I'm 63 and have been playing bass forever. Funk, Latin Jazz,R&B, is my favorite but I can pretty much play anything at least halfway decent.
Marcus has been my main guy ever since Lenny Whites Streamline came out. Thats a long tome ago. Over the years I have been chasing "That Tone" ( Marcus, John Pena, Alex Al) getting really close, sometimes I thought I had it but really never totally got there.
I'm a Youtube addict and never once have I heard a clip with an Xotic bass that I didn't love. So a bunch of unexpected gigs fell into my lap and i decided to use that money to get an Xotic Ash Maple XJ pro. Today was the day when it arrived and I'm still trying to pick up my jaw off the floor. I'm practically stunned. They sent me a bass that played perfectly, no adjustment necessary( and I'm picky and I know setups), It is so comfortable as if I had owned it for 30 years. I'm kind of crazy about wanting to mod everything I own. On this bass the only thing I could think of changing (and I did it already) was the silver knobs. They have no lines, I need to be able to see where I have my setting before i play a note. The knobs, that's it.
When I plugged it into my Markbass head I immediately liked the sound but something was not quite right. I remebered I had the Markbass EQ set up for one of my other J basses.Just a few tiny tweaks nothing drastic. So I set everything flat and there it was, The Tone I have been wanting all my life.
I am completely floored. I had not expected this to turn out so well, but it did.

Now I need to decide what to do with my bass collection. A few of the will stay but most of the will have to go to a new home....
I regret selling the 3 different ones that I owned. I'm getting another when they get more white ones in stock. If you need a pickguard, I can help you. This company already has my template so they can give you a quick turn around time.
And some unique grain in the body too!
P S. How's the weight?
I'm pretty sure it's under 10 lbs. I've own three different ProVintages and they were all around 9lbs 9oz.
I kind of thought so too, but I think that's actually one of its great features! Very cool bass!
I just weighed the bass , it's 9.2 pounds. The rehearsal went really well. I totally love the way it sounds and it plays so easy it's like nothing i have ever owned. There are a couple of basses I have that I need to keep because I play a lot of melodies and I solo a lot in my Latin Jazz duo. A super modded 5 string Proto J strung E to C with a D tuner and my 6 string Brice which is also completely modded and it's nothing like what it started as.
But I'm pretty sure my Atelier Z and my Moon bass are going to be up for sale really soon. Maybe even my 74 jazz. I have a 4 sting Modulus J that sounds like the 74 Jazz but just a little bit better. I'll keep that. I never thought I'd part with any of those basses but the Xotic is really that good.

I've been looking at these ever since they came out.
About 6 years ago I owned an Xotic XJ-1T that was made in Japan and it was an amazing bass. Wish I hadn't sold it.

I played a couple of gig and a rehearsal. Two different amps. I noticed that the less EQ on the amp, the better it sounds. I got a lot of positive comments from band members. My other basses sound great but this bass is from a different planet LOL and it plays so easily...
I have had the bass for a bit now and because I'm a little bit OCD there were a few of issues that I needed to contact customer service for. Nothing big enough to mention here but important enough to me.

I know exactly what that statement means. It sums up my thoughts about my Dingwall. I still don't understand why it isn't my permanent #1; I guess I just have too much fun looking for something better. I love my Spector and my Thumb, and I had a great time with my T-Bird last night...I'm a P-bass guy...but my Dingwall makes me sound like a better version of me.This bass is different, it actually makes me sound like a better version of me
In addition to the Xotic Bass I just got a new amp today. A EBS Reidmar 502. What a combination. I did a rehearsal today with it for a 10 piece horn band. The best sound I ever had and my sound has always been pretty good. And I never touched the amp to change any settings. Tomorrow we'll play an outdoor concert and I'm pretty sure a lot of my gear will be up for sale not too long from now I just wish I had gotten a Xotic much sooner , like when they first came out. But I'm glad I have one now.

Ha, I sure was a great judge of basses when i bought your Moon bass or I just got lucky. I still love that bass. I have gotten more compliments on that bass than any of the other ones put together..
1032.- for a Xotic bass... that's a steal. You won't be sorry. Ask them for the battery box modification kit. The original box that the bass comes with is trouble. You need clips on those batteries. More reliable.
