I hate ebay/paypal

There are so many fees to sell something on ebay and paypal sales over $500...

paypal takes 3% of the final purchase
ebay charges you per picture, to make the title bold of the sale, to put a picture next to the title, an initial selling fee, and a final selling fee

say on a purchase of $1000...you could lose up to $70 in fees, just on a normal sale (about 3-4 pictures, bold title and picture so people notice, the paypal fee).

Retailers have to pay a fee every time you use your credit/debit/bank card at a store, too. People work at eBay and Paypal so there are payroll, benefits, etc. to cover. Costs of doing business. They provide a service for which we have to pay. Advertising is expensive, ask any buisness person.

I appreciate the security of Paypal. I've pretty much only used it to buy stuff, though, so the fees don't bother me too much.

As far as eBay, it's the price of being on a global auction site. I mean, you can sell an item that thousands, maybe even millions of people can view and bid on. $70 or so is a pretty small price to pay for that on a $1000+ item.
