I dont know if its just me, but when i'm ask to learn a song, and the original artist teeters alot of fourths it drive me up the wall. To me it's a crappy sounding note. Play it against a guitarist bar chording, or have a keyboard in the band it turns to mush, or sounds wrong. I'm not talking Geddy Lee, because Lifeson plays a lot of sus chords, so in that context it works. Nor am i talking a passing tone in a walking line. To me, as a focus note or semi focus note ,it sounds like crap. Obviously, we sometimes try and look outside the box. Tired of playing root-5, yeah i get that. We only get twelve notes, and its easy to burn out that sweet 6th or 9th (2nd if you wish).
I really wonder how certain recordings get by without some of the recorder's notes not clashing. Sometimes i get it when the arrangement has sparse elements going, yet it still annoys me. Anyone else feel this way? Or am i a lone whacko. (dont answer that, i already know).
