Try to make it work, then leave it to ebay/paypal.
The policy, at least in the UK, is to make the buyer return the item before a refund is given. Heck, a friend of mine just went through this problem (being sold an NSTC camcorder that was listed and specifically mentioned by the seller as PAL).

You are right, ebay allows those other payment methods. Have you ever looked into them? Money bookers is an odd system...Pro Pay if I am not mistaken is owned by Wells Fargo and charges outrageous fees per item plus a ridiculous yearly "membership" fee. The only other option is merchant account, I dissolved my LLC a few years ago so getting a CC machine isn't a huge option. I may get one under my dba, that way I can set up a site for payment purposes only, but as for Pay Pal...when and if I ever get my $2,000 back from them they will be dead to me. They play God with other people's money...on top of that they are not even a true financial instution. Pay Pal is nothing more than a clearing house, if you have money an account and they were to go under, you would be SOL as the are not FDIC insured.

The bottom line is this, ebay "pushes" sellers to use Pay Pal and allows the other sources as they are more expensive. It all boils down to corporate greed, ebay owns Pay Pal they want all of the money. I have over 900 transactions on ebay...not my first dance. Pay Pal sucks, if you love it so much keep using it, when you get hosed...don't gripe about it here, because I don't think the majority of the people posting here on this thread would be very sympathetic to you...

Yeah, my post was tongue firmly planted in cheek. I was wondering how long before somebody caught it.
Everything I mentioned using the mail or bank transfer is forbidden by ebay. If you're like me, a non-business USA customer, your only real option is paypal. The other services are, as you say, not an option. One of them list their fees in Euros.

I got it, Pay Pal is a very sore subject with me...take the France deal I mentioned in a previuos post...I had to eat $200 in Fed Ex fees because the buyer failed to mention he would be out of the country for a month. I firmly belive he was trying to rip me off by pulling this stunt, it really seemed calculated. On the RARE instances when I do ship Internationally I will only do it using Fed Ex, this way I have some sort of control over the package. it may be limited control but it was enought to get my bass back to the US before he could pick it up AFTER Pay Pal sided with him.
I spent several hours on the phone with "Peggy" reading from a script, it was useless. I got nowhere with him and it really ticked me off. Trust me when I say I am doing my best not to cuss, I have such anger and total lack of trust with them the name Pay Pal just makes me want to vomit in my mouth
Ran a 10-32 die on the end of the truss rod. Installed a shiney new nut and put the neck back on the bass.

I've made the decision to never, ever ship internationally because of stories like this. It's cost me some sales dollars, but I sleep better at night not having to worry about this BS.
eBay is the biggest player in the market. People use them because they want an easy sale with the highest return. I'd say that boils down to personal greed.

I posted the ebay policy on a previous page. And though I couldn't find any reasonable alternates from my reading, a previous poster said there were many alternatives to paypal. So there must be some, somewhere.

There are annual fees plus final value fees. You also have Money Bookers which is owned by another bank, I want to say HSBC or Chase, their fees aren't nearly as bad as Pro Pay but there set up is odd. I started the process then decided not to follow though as the process time seemed never ending.
With that said, you don't have to have a Pay Pal account to buy, you can use your CC as a non-account holder but you cannot receive money that way.
I have tried using Craigslist, but I do not like people coming to my house. I have a pretty good sized collection of gear and as I mentioned I just don't want strangers coming to the house. You never know if you have some sort of pyscho or theif scoping your place out. If you go meet someone then you could possibly become a "victim"...you just don't know who you are dealing with. Whenever I do Craigslit posts, I usually meet someone and I take a 2 friends with me one is my neighbor that is 6' 4" 350 and the other is slightly smaller, it is compact and easily concealed H&K 45! Again, I know it sounds paranoid but I'd rather play it on the safe side. Living on the border between Texas and Mexico, it not exactly the safest place to be.

The previous (to me) owner told me his tech was amazed at how well it was set up and how easy it was to tweak in. I bought the bass in April 2011.
I sold this bass to searchfunction. I bought it from a good freind of Mike's, which guessing from the address on the return label when it was sent to me seems to be very plausable. That setup was so low that I can only guess Mike did it. I was kinda hoping it was broken so I could get it back cheap. That neck fit me like a glove and I miss it. Just can't afford it right now. Preschool to make sure my daughter is prepared for kindegarden or this bass, which would make 3. Preschool wins.

If you have small business, you may want to consider talking to your bank about getting a credit card service for payments. That is what I am going to do with my DBA...it is the only way to avoid the BS with Pay Pal.
