I HATE PCs SO MUCH!!!

I just love that all you Windows guys have to download and install special programs and jump through hoops to get your computers to work for extended periods of time. I have a used Powerbook G4 (400 bucks off the bay) that I bought 2 years ago that I do 90% of web surfing and emailing on (my G5 is what I do music on). It has worked fine with no problems...even after much music and porn downloading...ummm I mean, uhhh yeah... :eek:

I don't need spyware, popup blockers (they are included in Safari), Antivirus software....none of it

To stick with the car reference....."I bought a Yugo and it breaks down way more often compared to my neighbors Pontiac"

lol. yeah, and on my g4 MDD, i haven't had any issues with compatibility because, well, nothing -runs- on a g4. it doesn't tell me that i'm having memory management issues, it just doesn't play certain tracks in protools when i try to mix them down. it doesn't tell me i need a bios upgrade, it just doesn't boot 3 times out of 4 until i figure it out.

i also love the expectation that i should be willing to pay for a new operating system every year, that i should be happy to be forced to use apple-made software or else have compatibility issues, that i should be happy spending 25-50% more money for the equivalent computer just so that steve jobs can get a custom gold-plated porshe.

yeah, macs rule.

i'm responsible for 7 different pc machines in my house, along with my now-retired g4 1.25 mdd, and none of them have any aftermarket spyware/virus protection on them for bootup. i have a hardware firewall and use defender, and i have a program that detects and disables key loggers, one for root kits, and one i wrote on my own in about a half hour that helps me clean up my registry. imagine that - being able to actually write a program easily that helps me keep tabs on what's going on with my own computer. like to see someone do -that- on a mac in under a week.

and i have no problems on any of my pc's. i know what's loaded on all of them, i know what loads at boot up, i know what's running during runtime, i know where to find the info i don't know about them - i understand how the registry works, i understand how the computing admin tools provided in the operating system work. it wasn't hard to learn.

the funny part is: I have no idea what you are talking about...you know why?...cuz everything DOES run on my computers. I've never had to reboot my computer 3 or 4 times because something does not work. I'm not sure what you are doing with your computer...but Bios upgrade? I haven't seen any of that kinda stuff since I used to build PC's back in the day. I got fed up with that. I just want to turn on my computer and use it. Not try to force incompatible software and hardware to work together.
I pay the extra money so i don't have to go into the OS and change settings to get things to not interfere with each other.

I probably don't get really in depth into using computers as some people...Some people like to get in and fiddle with stuff...just like some like to take apart cars and tinker...and other people like to turn the key and go somewhere.

With Windows capable of running on Macs, you can do everything you want on an Apple computer. I'm a gamer, so I need Windows. But I'd love to have a Mac and do all my graphics design work, browsing and whatever on the Leopard, then just play games on Windows.

p.s. John, nice to hear that I'm not alone in my usage of this term. most of my customers are clueless about its meaning, and nod with agreement when I diagnose a critical work stoppage situation as them having 'pebcak related functionality issues'

p.p.s. macs aren't hacked because they have great security ... they are hacked because nobody really cares about them, and the "wrong kind" of motivated people are passionate about Bill & Co. imagine how many great software tools we'd have available today if all of that creative energy went instead to authoring code that brought about constructive results

I use Firefox with the add on "NoScript" and have had zero problems with spyware and crap like that. I also run AVG internet security.

NoScript stops any javascript from running on a web page until you approve it. From what I understand java is how most of that spyware gets into your computer. The only thing AVG seems to find now is tracking cookies.

+1 on this approach. I also run Spybot and scan with malwarebytes from time to time. Add a second hard drive to for backup and you're set.

As Apple's market share starts to increase, you guys can expect to see a lot of new viruses for Macs.

Macs are not immune, nor are they superior in terms of security. There just simply isn't any incentive just yet to make any viruses for them.
