I HATE PCs SO MUCH!!!

OMFG! I am SO close to throwing my computer out the window.
It's riddled with viruses and adware thanks to running on Avast* for a year or two. I can't ****ing believe how incredibly bad PCs can get. I have friends who have Macs that have been running with no firewalls or virus protection for YEARS and they still boot up in under a minute. Or should I say I hate Windows? It's not like my PC has crap specs. But thanks to a crappy OS and loads of viruses that float around for it, my computer is on the verge of completely dying.

*Please, never use this program. Save yourself the trouble and pay for a decent virus protection program like Windows One Care. Avast is PATHETIC, at best.

i bought one 6 months ago and will NEVER go back.
basically when i had a PC i found myself saying "***!?" all the time....i have never said "***!?" while using my mac....
plus you will climb in the social status and be better than all those pc users....

that's just not true. not only does nearly every pc vendor include security software for free, so does windows now.
updating windows with the most recent fixes is free, not like the yearly 100-dollar+ "rail pass" you need to keep riding the trolley.
not in my experience. i bought a G4 mdd 1.25 ghz dual new, and it took 3 hours of downloads to get it properly going (it did not have os10 installed from the store), "out of the box"
. never had to do that with -any- pcs. also needed a bios update when brand new, and then needed another one within two years. i've bought more pcs in my life than i can remember, and i've flashed bioses on machines forever - even worked a contract job for american megatrends back when i was in college around '90, on early incarnations of their bios, but i've never ever ever had to update the bios of a machine that was brand new. that's just ridiculous.
Sure, the Mac may well be the equivalent of public transport, but the PC is like buying a Smart Car for the purpose of off roading. Sure, it can go where ever you want, but just try taking off road without some modifications and see what really happens in practice!
wrong. i've purchased 4 computers in the past year (2 laptops for my household, a pc for my wife, and a pc for my mother), none of which required anything extra outside of what they came with, and none of which needed any lengthy downloads, all of which were less than 50% of the cost of the equivalent performing macintosh.
then again, there's the computer i built, 2 years ago, that can still outperform -any- mac at any price.
funny analogy though, you should send it to apple for their ads. they never let the truth get in the way of their claims either
.look, i understand. you signed up for the steve jobs lifetime supply of mac koolaid, and don't want to question your "investment" so that's cool. if i spent two grand on a 400 computer with a cute light-up logo and the personal guarantee of half of silicon valley that i was now ubercool, i'd resent any implications to the contrary too.
you know, though, even apple doesn't buy their party line anymore - macs are now being shipped able to run windows, right? why is that? you know, there's not a single major vendor in the world that cares even a little to make their pcs run os10.5. there's a reason for that, and it's not that nobody has been "enlightened to mac superiority".

dual core 2.6 ghz
4 gig 667 ram
350 gig 7200 harddrive
1920x1200
here's a mac with the same loadout (mine lacks only the firewire 400 out, does have the 800, and my harddrive is bigger)...

My over 2 year old original (no hardware upgrades) Macbook Pro is running the latest version of the OS (which I did upgrade to) without any upgrades just as fast as the day I bought it. In all my years of using PCs, I never experienced a PC that could (without any hardware upgrades) run the newest OS version 2 years after the purchase price without any decrease in day to day speed. Did my Mac cost me more upfront? Sure. But I haven't spent a cent "upgrading" the hardware in over 2 years. It's also nice to have an OS that even the manufacturer is scrambling to bring the new version out whilst users downgrade to the last version. Oh wells, I don't think Macs are superior, there lots of stuff PCs can do that Macs cant. But for what I use it for, there isn't even a competition.
The kind that launches sattelites, keeps them in geosynchronus orbit, all while doing your dishes, playing the sports replays, listening to the new wintersleep album and regulating the temperature of your house, while still only useing 50% of its processing power.

to be honest, i must say i am. folks that can maintain an air of smug superiority in the face of overwhelming and unanimous evidence to the contrary always make me a bit jealous of their powers of self-delusion.
. if i had such finely honed mental abilities i'd wile away the hours frolicing in fantasy land too. .

oh, and if it sounds like i'm a little bitter, i have to admit i am. i've been an apple fan since i got my first ][e in '83. i used macs all through college in the 80's and 90's, and i wanted, more than anything else, to be a card-carrying mac zealot. but i just honestly can't. apple, to me, is just everything that is lame, abberrant and corrupt in the computing industry, all the more pernicious for it's cutsie image and self-assumed mantle of "cooler-than-thou".
here's a perfect example of the crap that is apple. when i put the laptop together to get the price the nice friendly apple site slipped into the order a copy of quicktime, without me asking, at a $30 dollar charge, hoping i guess that i wouldn't notice.

Now THAT's funny. I'm a Mac user, a Mac lover. However I also use PC's regularly. They're different tools, and are a matter of preference. If people ask my recommendation for a laptop? It's a Macbook. If people tell me they have a problem with their PC, I'll fix it for them or help them fix it themselves. But I won't suggest a Mac to fix a PC. In my experience, the new Macbook is damn near bulletproof, many MANY of my friends at school using them and have yet to have a problem. My battery life is second to none, and in over a year, I've had no problems, and have done nothing to the machine except double the RAM. (Apple charges $300 for 2GB of RAM. I bought it for $53 and installed it myself.) ... sure they make money off a few people who don't know what they're doing... but a tech savvy person could really get their money's worth out of a Macbook.
I have a PC of my own, I never use it because of the convenience of the Mac. I take it everywhere. BUT, I won't be out there bashing PC's.

Most people that buy Macs admit they aren't "under-the-hood" folks. Of course, Apple knows this. That's why they fist-boink you $300 for a stick of RAM. That's borderline criminal, IMO. Ignoring the arrogance, condescension, and rudeness of many of the "elite" Mac users, that's reason enough never to buy a one!!! :scowl:
Also, I'm 100% with JT. I've never had any of the PC issues some of you complain about. I have two primary systems now, my laptop and my desktop. Both run XP Pro SP3 with zero issues.
I have had no problems with PC's either, except for say a few batteries that didn't last a year with normal use on my laptops. This is the biggest reason I bought my Macbook. The machines at my house all run XP SP3 as well, and have no problems... except for the one my mom uses because of all the spyware. She just doesn't understand that all the toolbars she uses in IE are riddled with it.
