Do not listen to any of these people they are all crazy...
If you change your battery the bass will explode!
I you try adjusting the input level the amp (and quite possibly the bass) will explode!

Here`s what you do:
Disassemble your bass completely. Take the tuning pegs off, the pups out, and remove (carefully!) all the other electronic bits and wire. Now, encase the neck in concrete and find the deepest point in the mississippi and sink it. Do the same to the body, except instead of the Mississippi, you have to send it into the middle of Hudsons Bay where it can be safely disposed of.
Finally, take all the remaining hardware and wiring and place them gently in a #3 strength garbage bag and put it on a slow boat to New Zealand...unless you`re from New Zealand..at which point the only safe place to send it is Australia.
Now, go buy a bass with passive pickups.:D

However if you really want to, put on goggles, a helmut, rubber gloves, a respirator and a fire retardant suit and try to change the battery....but remember your bass will probably explode as soon as you open up the battery compartment...

Oh god I think I have too much time on my hands....as well as some sort of mental issue that needs immediate attention.

Make sure that while removing the battery to cut the red wire first. The "RED" wire!!!
Otherwise you will cause a major blackout on the east coast.

......on second thought, cut the red wire first.

there's a neighborhood in NYC called Battery Park (google map it if you dont believe me)

Go there with your bass.

There are friendly government employees stationed there who will advise you how to fix your bass.

Have you tried playing the following bass line on your bass?

"Battery" on the album "Master Of Puppets"

Metallica

I did some research and came across this.
Not sure what you are suppose to do but I'm sure that it should help.

Not to become serious or anything.....

Go to Radio Shack and get a battery tester (all you sarcastic people, too...) It is a great device to throw in the gig bag, and test your batteries before putting them in your bass....., also, it eliminates the question of how strong the battery is.

Or....you could shove a potato in the battery compartment....that should get you through a gig.
