If a movie director wants to make great movie and it turns out great, it is assumed that he just has a love for the cinema, not that he is making movies to feel superior to people. If someone wants to be an athlete, then most of the time people assume he has a love for sports, not that he is getting in great shape so he can go around looking down on people feeling superior to them. If someone tries to be a good fiction writer, I have a feeling it is because he likes literature and loves to express himself through words . I doubt that he is doing that to feel superior to other people. This assumption that musicians who want to do original music are doing it because they want to feel superior to other people is just really bizarre to me.

LMAO, I only read the first page of posts but it appears that the majority of players here play in cover bands and are butt hurt cause they are failed musicians and can only play other peoples material

I agree with the original poster, write your own songs.

Enjoy playing living on a prayer for the 40 millionth time!

LOL

i think that should answer any questions you may have regarding "assumtions" on this point...:)

i can't believe i'm actually still checking this thread. it's like really bad tv, or a trainwreck.:rollno:

I think what this really comes down to is time. For most of us, we have full-time jobs (lord knows I do...), so we really don't have time for multiple bands, just one. Some people pick cover bands and say, "Jeez, we get to play awesome songs everybody likes, get paid, have a great time...who in their right mind would waste their time with originals!" Others say, "Well, I only have enough time/energy to put into one band, so I might as well play the music I want to, the way I want to, with whom I want, so I can make my own, if small, mark on music history." We can all understand the other's view point to a certain extent, but when you are forced to choose one from the other, it really shows that we are on totally different planets!

I play in a cover band, but also write play and record my own songs.

So, to some of you that means I am a superior failed musician.

My drummer was in a national act that opened for Dream Theater back in the 90's. He is a has been and therefore inferior to all other musicians original cover or other.

He loves it when the folks that never was call him a has been! It's great fun!

Jesus Tap Dancing Christ! Is this dumb thread still going on?

Well....

We could assume that people that play in cover bands are money hungry Republicans that are willing to sell their souls for a quick buck.

...and that....

People that play in original bands are wishy washy lefty wing Democrats that are just in it for the "art".
