My feathers are very content with your remark! As I was checking out the funk pieces on this thread...as I was looking up some of my own favorites, I--a lefty-who-plays-righty finger-style player--had this epiphany of sorts: Lookit. It doesn't matter whether you play bass with your fingers, thumb, pick, or whatever. No! If your soul is fired up by honest funk, your funky bassline will shine in its own way. Bassists, unite around the great light of funkiness. Oh my! Like you, @R.I.P., I'm experiencing a homecoming of sorts. I, too, come from the dark world of metal lol. And I still love it. But oh wow FUNK. Sorry, you all. But this is a bit of a religious experience for me. Keep on posting & may your God of choice Bless you all.It may ruffle some feathers for me to say it, but I love that era of funk because bass players were funky without every tune turning into a thousand note a minute sonically saturated slapwank. Very musical and melodic and funky with space between notes and everything. Yum.
