One thing about
Classic funk music was that there were great SONGS- not just playing. The playing added to songs that already had memorable melodies/ hooks, arrangements. Funk, and would include genres such as R&B, Soul, and Disco, was very ORCHESTRATED music. Back in da day, you didn't really have a band without a keyboardist, percussionist, horn SECTION, guitar, and two or more LEAD vocalists. In other words, it wasn't about just the bassist.
